5D4N Route: Nagoya, Nagano, Gifu

The main tower keep's Kinshachi, Golden Tiger-Fish Roof Ornaments, is famous and it is the symbol of Aichi. Despite functioning as a fortress, it has a luxurious interior, which is a must-see. Next to Nagoya Castle, there is Kinshachi Yokocho. You can enjoy delicious foods in a castle town atmosphere there.

More than ten thousand artifacts are stored in the Tokugawa Art Museum, most of which are Tokugawa Ieyasu's belongings. Many exhibitions and special events are held throughout the year here, so there are plenty of things to see.

It is a quiet hot spring resort located among the mountains. It has around 250 years of history but had been hidden for a long time. It was rediscovered during a tunnel investigation in 1973. The spring water is alkaline and promotes beautiful skin. There is also a morning market where fresh vegetables, ice cream, and other local specialties are sold.

It is a scenic spot where you can gaze the starry sky in fresh air. From there, if you take the ropeway up to the spot at an altitude of 1,400 meters, you can enjoy the starry sky where no lights from the streets can reach.

This area still exudes the atmosphere of the Edo period. Buildings like hotels and inns are used the way they were, and cobblestone paths are also recreated. Visitors may feel that they time-travelled while enjoying their time here.

Lake Suwa is located in the central part of Nagano. Visitors can enjoy activities like taking sightseeing boats and kayaking. Plus, there are several museums for visitors to experience culture and art.

Gently undulating hills of Kirigamine highlands. In addition to overlooking Mt. Fuji, the Alps, and the Yatsugatake mountain range, you can also enjoy seasonal alpine plants such as the Nikkokisuge.

Matsumoto Castle's tenshu (keep) is the oldest five-layered, six-story tenshu in Japan. A tower for moon-viewing, Tsukimi Yagura, is integrated with the castle for people to gracefully enjoy moon-viewing. The roof of the tenshu pitches sharply so that snow does not pile up. It also has other special structures that are only seen in extremely cold regions. Visitors can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons in Japan with the Japanese Alps in the background.

From Kappa Bridge, beautiful and clear Taisho Pond to fantastic Tashiro Marsh, there are many spots where you can enjoy nature. There are also several accommodation facilities for travelers to heal after walking.

The area is dotted with many relaxing and interesting Japanese inns. The spring water here consists of magnesium and calcium, which are effective against neurosis and skin disease, and is therefore also used as a healing onsen.

There are two morning markets—the Miyagawa Morning Market and the Jinya-mae Morning Market, which are located at northeast side and the southeast side of Takayama Station respectively. Fresh local vegetables, fruits, and pickled vegetables are sold here. The markets are bustling with farmers speaking with each other in the local dialect.

Praised for the view of houses shaped like folded hands, the area was designated as an Important Preservation District for Traditional Buildings, and as a World Heritage Site in 1995.

The pond gets its high transparency from the spring water, forming a sight like Monet's Water Lilies. A beautiful spot where elegant carps swim.
